As opposed to "France" before September 4, 1870

Modern France, at its start, is a Catholic Francien constitutional republic located mainly in the France region of the Western Europe subcontinent. Switching from France to Modern France on September 4,1870, with cores, the mainland of the republic borders fellow Catholic Spain southwest, Italy and Baden east and Belgium northeast, Luxembourg and Bavaria northeast, Protestant Prussia northeast, waters of the North Atlantic northwest and Western Mediterranean southeast.

The republic will start off at war with Prussia.

Mainland Modern France will be conquered by Secular Germany and Catholic Vichy France on June 14, 1940, the government exciled to African colonies. The capital and most of the mainland will be taken back on September 19, 1944, to exist on-map for the rest of the timeline.

Modern France joins the European Union in 1958.
