For World War 1, see Allies (WW1).
Countries that fought against the Axis Powers during World War 2. It's important to mention though that this includes both the actual Allies ( Great Britain, France, Poland, The United States, etc) and the Comintern (The Soviet Union and its puppets). Germany and the USSR signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact on 23 August 1939, which was a non-aggression pact between the two countries. This prompted the invasion of Poland first by Germany, and then by the Soviet Union. The Germans and the Soviets actually came extremely close to forming an alliance against the Allies until Hitler decided to attack the Soviets instead. This is infamous German-Soviet Axis alliance is referred as the "Unholy Alliance". It was only when the Germans attacked did the Soviets technically join the Allies.
In the case of Italy, they join the Allies after the fall of Northern Italy, which led to the Italian capitulation and a change from a fascist government to a democratic government.
